Our Process
Over the last decade, SickKids has developed and refined a complete workflow for creating accurate 3D heart models from CT and MRI scans, thanks largely to Dr. Shi-Joon Yoo and a dedicated team of surgeons, physicians, and engineers. This process allows you to understand complex anatomy in three dimensions, rehearse surgical approaches, and support clearer communication with your team, patients, and families.
Isolating the anatomy you need to plan complex cases
Your CT or MRI scans are segmented to highlight the specific cardiac structures, defects, and surrounding vessels that matter for your decision-making. The resulting 3D files can be hollowed, trimmed, or layered with features such as valves and arteries so you can focus on the details that are hardest to appreciate on standard imaging.

Process to Practice
This workflow is used both to create custom patient‑specific models and to develop the standardized training and education models available through our store. These models can support your treatment planning, surgical rehearsal, teaching, and patient communication. Explore how the 3DHeartLab can apply this workflow to your cases and training programs.
